The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that 805,472 passengers arrived and departed through Kansas City International Airport’s gates in January, a 2.7 percent decrease from January 2019. Passenger boardings were down 2.1 percent, with a total of 405,153 boarded. For the year to date, total passengers in and out total 805,472, down 2.7 percent. Year-to-date passenger boardings are 405,153, down 2.1 percent.
"While we’re disappointed to start the new year off with decline in traffic from last year, we are encouraged by our airline partners who have increased capacity to key destinations such as Dallas, Charlotte, Orlando and San Antonio.," said Pat Klein, director of aviation.
Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were down 2.9 percent in January with a total of 16.7 million pounds handled. Year to date, 16.7 million pounds have been handled, down 2.9 percent. Air freight handled at KCI during January amounted to 16.2 million pounds, down 2.6 percent year-over-year. Year to date, air freight is down 2.6 percent with a total of 16.2 million pounds handled. Air mail for January was down 12.2 percent from January 2019 with 577,079 pounds handled. Air mail year to date for 2020 is down 12.2 percent from 2019 with 577,079 million pounds handled.
The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for January 2020 was 156. Service was offered to 45 nonstop markets. There was an average of 36,108 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day. The all-cargo carriers reported 5 daily departures for January.
