Munich Airport Retains Title as Europe's Only Five-Star Airport

March 27, 2017

Europe's best airport, the best terminal in the world – and now yet another accolade for Munich Airport: In a new audit carried out by the London-based Skytrax Institute, Bavaria's gateway to the world has successfully defended its title as Europe's first and only five-star airport.

In May 2015 the Bavarian hub was granted the five-star airport title for the first time. Before that, the only airports to earn the top rating of five stars were in Asia: Singapore, Seoul, Hong Kong and Tokio-Haneda. They were joined in January 2017 by Doha Airport. Munich has now successfully defended its title: Experts from the Skytrax Institute returned to scrutinize the quality of the services and the overall passenger experience and once again awarded Munich Airport the five-star seal of approval. The auditors' conclusion: Munich Airport not only maintained its outstanding quality, but actually improved on it.

In their assessment, the auditors paid special attention to projects and measures implemented since the five-star certification audit in 2015. These include the new satellite building, an additional security screening facility in Terminal 1 and the training provided to staff with direct passenger contact. All divisions and subsidiaries of FMG, the airport operating company, were involved.
