TX: Stinson Kicks Off Speakers Series

The city of San Antonio Aviation Department announced the launch of the San Antonio Aviation Speakers Series. Each quarter, aviation experts from the San Antonio area will be sharing their flying stories and experiences with interested enthusiasts.

The first event to be held July 30, from noon to 1 p.m. at Stinson Municipal Airport features Retired Lt. General Noel T. “Tom” Jones who is currently serving as the aviation director for the San Antonio Airport System. Jones will share his experiences in the United States Air Force, which includes flying an F-16 Fighter Jet. To register, visit www.surveymonkey.com/r/SSFSpeakersSeries.

In January, Jones was appointed to serve as the city’s aviation director while the city conducts a national search for a permanent director.  In his role as aviation director, he oversees the day-to-day operations at the San Antonio Airport System, made up of the San Antonio International Airport and Stinson Municipal Airport.  Combined the airports account for an economic impact of more than $5.1 billion annually and support approximately 100,000 jobs in the region.

A retired Air Force Lieutenant General, Jones was previously the vice commander of all U.S. Air Forces in Europe and in Africa, encompassing the Air Force’s command in 104 countries.  A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Jones held numerous leadership roles in his 35-year military career including oversight of air fields and large-scale command operations.
