Shift in Economy Parking at KCI To Send Allegiant, Delta, Southwest Fliers to Nearby Lot
Allegiant, Delta and Southwest passengers planning to use economy parking before heading out on their trip will park in a different lot than they might be used to beginning Wednesday, a Kansas City International Airport spokesman said.
Those passengers will be directed to the nearby Economy C parking lot, as the Economy B lot is closing permanently. Drivers are being told to just follow the signs for their airline.
Consider this practice for when the new single terminal opens next year.
While the change might cause regular travelers to pause a moment — the economy lots had previously been tied to KCI’s three terminals — airport officials said it’s a sign of things to come when the new terminal opens.
“As you know, we’re building a new single terminal and so A, B and C terminals are going away — A is already gone,” said Joe McBride, a KCI spokesman. “Subsequently there’s not a need for three separate lots that are considered tied to a particular terminal.”
In anticipation of the new terminal, airport officials expect to be able to handle the economy parking with one big lot, which would most likely be some type of combination of lots A and C, McBride said. The B lot would become an overflow lot used during heavy travel periods like Thanksgiving.
The shift in parking is being done now because rehabilitation work has been completed on the Economy C lot.
Travelers who are returning after the Economy B lot closed will still be able to take the Blue Bus to their vehicles. The bus will continue to serve both lots until the B lot is empty, McBride said.
