Frankfurt Airport Reports Best Month Since Start of Pandemic

Nov. 11, 2021

Frankfurt — Frankfurt Airport has had its strongest month since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis.

Almost 3.4 million passengers passed through Germany's largest airport in October - around 30,000 more than in the peak season in August - the airport operator Fraport announced on Thursday.

However, the figure was still 47.2 per cent lower than October 2019, before the crisis began.

Cargo business continued briskly with 196,037 tons of freight. This represents an increase of 9.7 per cent compared with the same month last year.

Following the opening-up of the United States to travellers from Europe a few days ago, Fraport CEO Stefan Schulte now expects close to 25 million passengers at Frankfurt Airport this year.

In 2020, traffic slumped to less than 19 million, after the airport had posted a record year in 2019 with more than 70 million passengers. Schulte believes this level is unlikely to be reached again until 2025 at the earliest.
