SOUTH BEND — South Bend International Airport will roll out a new initiative to encourage area businesses to commit to flying out of South Bend instead of larger alternatives such as Chicago or Detroit.
Project Propel is a plan to save money for local businesses as well as improve service and flight options at South Bend International, which already has a $1.7 billion impact on the area economy according to a 2012 study conducted by the Aviation Association of Indiana.
The new program will recruit business to “Fly Local First” by signing a letter that would shift a company’s travel policy for flights that cost within $300 of a similar flight out of Chicago's O’Hare or Midway airports.
