NY: Port Authority to Authorize Stewart Airport Expansion, Name Change Thursday
Feb. 13, 2018
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey could approve a $30 million expansion and a name change for Stewart International Airport on Thursday.
But the descendants of Archie Stewart contest the name change, saying it is forbidden in the lease.
"My father used to say that when he died, they'd say, 'Old Stewart's gone, it doesn't matter, let's name the airport after whatever,'" said Mary Hafer Stewart, daughter of Archie Stewart, the New Windsor airport's namesake. "And I told him I would stand up and defend the name."
