NY: Stewart Descendants Protest Plan to Rename Airport

STEWART AIRPORT – An attorney for the descendants of Archie Stewart has written Gov. Andrew Cuomo to protest the proposed renaming of Stewart International Airport.

In a letter sent by certified mail, Stewart Glenn of Newburgh, the family’s longtime lawyer, pointed out the state’s lease with the Port Authority specifically prohibits the tenant from changing the airport’s name for the duration of the lease.

The Port Authority wants to rename Stewart “New York International at Stewart Field” to better identify its location.
