Travelers flying to and from Las Vegas via McCarran International Airport were affected by weather-related delays Thursday as high winds blew dust and sand, creating poor visibility.

According to a local report from KLAS, the Federal Aviation Administration ordered a hold on departures of commercial flights from other airports to Las Vegas. Both arriving and departing flights were delayed for various lengths of time.

The Las Vegas Sun reported that gust of wind in excess of 70 mph overturned semi-trailer trucks, created traffic hazards, and knocked down trees and power lines.
