Put Vital Aircraft Information at Your Fingertips

July 5, 2021

Burns & McDonnell is bringing more information to your fingertips to improve operations and planning at your airport.

The Burns & McDonnell Aircraft Characteristics App allows aviation professionals to access need-to-know aircraft data right on their mobile device or computer desktop. Instead of relying on a printed manual, the statistics and specifications for thousands of aircraft makes and models are readily available digitally at the user’s fingertips.

“Information within the digital format can be updated quickly and easily as there are changes from an aircraft’s manufacturer,” said Eric Bahr, project manager, Burns & McDonnell. “New makes and models are added readily when data is available. This allows users to have the most up-to-date information all in one convenient location.”

Aircraft are sorted into three categories: Commercial, Military, and General Aviation Aircraft, and then sorted by manufacturer for quick access. Users can find information including length, wingspan, tail height, ramp weight, passenger capacity, and much more for each aircraft included in the app.

The information featured within the app can be utilized in countless ways for airports, airlines and aviation industry consultants. Having aircraft specifications at the ready assists these groups in planning for the proper infrastructure needed to support various aircraft.

Bahr said this new app helps to streamline the process of finding the many specifications of an aircraft, especially when needed quickly. For example, if a plane needs to make an emergency landing at an unplanned destination, the teams at that airport need to quickly be able to determine if their facilities and infrastructure can support an aircraft of that make and model. The Aircraft Characteristics app has many of the aircraft specs needed to make that decision, all in one location.

Users can download the Aircraft Characteristics App by visiting the Apple App Store or Google Play Store on their mobile device, or by visiting the Microsoft Store on their desktop computer. The app is free to download. Once users have downloaded the app, they will be prompted to make an account so they can access additional features of the tool, such as saving their frequently referenced aircraft to the My Fleet tab for even quicker access.

“Conference attendees are welcome to join the Burns & McDonnell team at booth No. 619 for a demonstration of the Aircraft Characteristics app and to learn more about how the app can support their everyday needs,” Bahr said. “Ask any member of the team for a demo and they’ll be glad to give you a tour.”
