Hangar Upgrades Pave the 'Run' Way for Expansion at Oklahoma City Airport

Dec. 17, 2018
Rubb Building Systems, a steel framed fabric structure market leader, has helped OKC expand aviation service capabilities by attaching two new fabric covered hangar additions onto existing hangars.

Will Rogers Airport in Oklahoma City was facing a challenge: How to modernize existing older hangars and expand the airports ability to service larger planes. This all needed to be done on a limited budget and within a tight timeline. Enter Rubb Building Systems of Sanford Maine: with design help from Oklahoma based FSB Architects and Engineers a plan to provide the airport with needed hangar modernization and added space in the form of two(2) steel framed, fabric covered hangar extensions was devised.

The Rubb hangar extensions measure 150 ft wide by 89 ft long for Hangar "A" and 45 ft long for "B". Both hangars have 30ft legs and are engineered to support panel Assa-Abloy Megadoors. "What a challenge" proclaims Rubb Head Engineer Gary Sutryn. "In my 35 years here at Rubb this was one of our more challenging projects." Rubb has grown accustomed to complex projects and according to Rubb President Dave Nickerson. "This was an intricate project requiring precise engineering all combined with working cooperatively with a GC, architect, the state of Oklahoma and the airport commission. At the end of the day the results has everyone smiling"
