Paul Allen’s New Stratolaunch!

March 7, 2018

By golly, things change faster than I can keep up. My last blog was written about Elon Musk’s latest space launch. Now we have Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s Space Airplane, Stratolaunch.

Stratolaunch is the biggest airplane ever built, based on wingspan, and the largest composite airplane ever built no matter how you measure it.

Stratolaunch — powered by six 747 engines — was designed by Burt Rutan. Decades ago, when Rutan first started designing small airplanes, who would have thought he would design a behemoth like this?

Stratolaunch is not meant to carry people to the moon, but to lift satellites into space.

Perhaps the biggest difference between Stratolaunch and rockets is that Stratolaunch will take off and land on airports! I assume it will also be based on airports.

This is a game changer.

I wonder if it isn’t time to study up and learn more about the Stratolaunch?

Stratolaunch is currently in taxi tests, so, as the song says, “Better get ready.”
