Feds Paid ‘Volunteers’ to Search Luggage, Mail for Drug Evidence

Dec. 2, 2016

According to a report by Buzzfeed News, the Drug Enforcement Administration paid millions to “volunteers” who would go through luggage and cargo to look for drugs.

The report states investigators informed Congress of the program and how it costs nearly $250 million during the past five years. One airline employee earned $600,000 in a four-year period.

Investigators found the DEA failed to properly track the payments or the rate of success.
