Houston Airports Prepare for 2.9 Million Holiday Passengers
Bush Intercontinental and Hobby airports are preparing for 2.9 million holiday passengers between Friday and Jan. 5.
That's essentially flat from last year, up 5,980 passengers from the volume of travelers expected in 2018 (the Houston Airport System did not provide actual 2018 travel numbers and has changed its methodology for coming up with the calculation).
Nationwide, industry trade group Airlines for America reported a 3 percent increase to 47.5 million passengers flying globally on U.S. airlines between Thursday and Jan. 5.
“Throughout this year we’ve seen steady gains in air travel demand, and this winter will be no exception” John Heimlich, chief economist for Airlines for America, said in a news release. “Buoyed by a healthy economy and plentiful, affordable air service, travelers once again are expected to take to the skies in record numbers.”
