ROMULUS, MI -- Visitors to Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) will soon be able to follow loved ones beyond the security checkpoint and into the two terminals at the airport. Starting Tuesday, the DTW Destination Pass program will launch at the airport allowing visitors to visit all the offerings at both the McNamara and North terminals.

The program is the result of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) loosening regulations on non-ticketed visitors being at airports across the country.

"“The new regulations allow us to expand our gate pass program that already exists for our Westin hotel guests,” said Wayne County Airport Authority CEO Chad Newton in a press release. “Now we can welcome more community members into our home to create memorable moments—from watching planes to greeting family and friends.”

The program will begin a pilot phase starting tomorrow that is available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Because the program is in a pilot phase, passes will be limited to 75 visitors per day and is expected to end on January 5, 2020.

In order to receive a pass, guests must apply on the DTW website and be approved by the airport the day before their planned visit. Guests must submit to the same security regulations as passengers boarding an aircraft. If approved, you will also be asked to complete a survey about the program so the airport can collect data on the program in order to make adjustments before a wider release.

The program launch comes shortly after the airport completed a major renovation of the North Terminal which included the opening of several new eateries.
