Local Air Travel is More Convenient After Interline Agreement, Airport Manager Says

July 8, 2019

An agreement between Contour Air and the nation's largest air carrier will make air travel from Beckley more convenient, Raleigh County Memorial Airport Manager Tom Cochran said Wednesday, and a weekday flight from Beckley to Tampa is being added to the schedule.

On June 12, Contour officials announced that Contour, the Tennessee-based carrier that provides air service to the Beckley area, has signed an interline agreement that allows travelers to purchase tickets in Beckley and to go through only one baggage check if they are flying with American Airlines from another airport, such as Charlotte-Douglas International Airport in North Carolina.

"You can buy your ticket in Beckley to other destinations and check your baggage, and you don't have to depart your aircraft or secure area and go reclaim your baggage and check back through again," Cochran said. "That eliminates all of that hassle.

"After going through security in Beckley, you can go anywhere in the world."

The new arrangement is expected to start in late September or early October, once Contour has trained staff and updated its computerized system.

Contour officials also announced the addition of a second flight with a weekday departure from Beckley to Tampa.

The new departure will be either Wednesday or Thursday, allowing travelers to fly to Tampa in midweek and to return on the weekend.
