Sept. 05--TWIN FALLS -- The company that will design terminal upgrades at Joslin Field Magic Valley Regional Airport got its contract approved by the Twin Falls City Council Tuesday night.

The contract with Boise architectural firm CSHQA is for about $387,000, with another $55,000 for administrative costs.

A Federal Aviation Administration grant is covering about $380,000.

The city and Twin Falls County will provide a combined $25,000, and the remaining $36,000 will come from airport reserves and passenger fees.

Airport Manager Bill Carberry said they hope to have the design finished and collect bids for the project late this year or in early 2015.

The upgrades are to be done in late 2015.

"It's a fairly aggressive schedule, but one that I think is reasonable," Carberry said.

The terminal will be expanded, providing more room in the passenger holding area after passing through security and for baggage screening and sorting. It also will add office, ticketing and terminal space.

The terminal was built in the late 1990s. But the amount of room required for security functions through the Transportation Security Administration increased greatly in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The upgrades will also allow Joslin Field to accommodate more airlines eventually.

Federal money will pay most of the construction costs.
