May 29--Maine airports are receiving more than $4.7 million in federal grants for upgrades and safety improvements.
According to a news release from U.S. Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Angus King, a Maine independent, 17 airports are due to receive grants from the Federal Aviation Administration. They are:
Bangor International Airport -- $1,399,346 to install runway sensors, modify the terminal building PA system and rehabilitate the taxiway and apron.
Steven A. Bean Municipal Airport in Rangeley -- $200,000 to install perimeter fencing and a vertical/visual guidance system.
Belfast Municipal Airport -- $138,000 to plan for required improvements.
Biddeford Municipal Airport -- $320,000 to install airport beacons and perimeter fencing.
Brunswick Executive Airport -- $150,000 to remove obstructions to the runway approach.
Caribou Municipal Airport -- $150,000 to plan for future airport needs.
Central Maine Airport of Norridgewock -- $150,000 to acquire snow removal equipment.
Dewitt Field, Old Town Municipal Airport -- $50,000 to conduct an environmental study.
Eastport Municipal Airport -- $150,000 to install weather reporting equipment.
Greenville Municipal Airport -- $225,000 for environmental mitigation.
Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport -- $300,000 to install wind cones and replace obstruction lights and poles.
Knox County Regional Airport in Rockland -- $135,000 to rehabilitate the runway.
Northern Maine Regional Airport at Presque Isle -- $300,000 to rehabilitate the runway, taxiway and apron.
Pittsfield Municipal Airport -- $150,000 to plan for future development.
Portland International Jetport -- $484,183 to acquire snow removal equipment.
Sanford Seacoast Regional Airport -- $315,000 to rehabilitate the taxiway to plan for future airport needs.
Sugarloaf Regional Airport in Carrabassett -- $130,000 to acquire land for development.
