Dubai: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) one of the largest airlines Emirates has inked an agreement with Ajman-based steel component maker Excel to build an additional multi-aircraft docking system in the carrier's Dubai-based engineering complex.

The new docking system will be situated in hangar E and is in addition to the four docking systems that are available in four out of the company's eight hangars.

The overall charge for the construction of the new docking system is expected to cost Dh28 million.

The need for the new multi-aircraft docking system was attributed to the airlines' steady expansion. Emirates carefully reviewed potential partners to build the new docking system before choosing Excel, which is supported by Germany's Gunzburger Steigtechnik.

Excel was selected for their excellent past business relationships and their advanced and quality products. It is also in the close proximity to Dubai. It will supply the airline with fuselage, tail and infill docks. The firm has been working with the airline for the past 15 years.

Gunzburger Steigtechnik will provide aluminum modules for the wing dock and engine. It has also supplied the airliner with under-wing platforms in the past for the paint hangar.

The firm shares a mutually benefiting relationship with Emirates.
