Boingo Wireless Unveils Wi-Fi Services at Phuket International Airport
Boingo Wireless, Inc., a Wi-Fi industry's provider of software and services worldwide, announced the launch of the company's managed Wi-Fi services at Phuket International Airport (HKT), per an agreement with WLANNet, a Milcom Systems company.
According to a release, as part of the agreement, Boingo is broadcasting its "Boingo Hotspot" SSID and is fully managing the end user experience, offering a familiar, fast and friendly network to international travelers passing through Phuket Airport, the gateway to some of Thailand's most popular tourist destinations. Boingo's managed Wi-Fi services include sales, authentication, roaming access and support.
"As an increasingly popular destination for vacationers worldwide, Phuket Airport is an ideal addition to Boingo's international network of premium Wi-Fi service locations," said Allen Pan, Boingo's director of Asia Pacific. "The launch of our managed Wi-Fi services provides travelers from around the globe with a cost-effective, user-friendly roaming solution that will allow them to send that last work email or download their favorite movie or beach read without incurring costly data overage charges."
"Phuket Airport has seen record-setting passenger traffic in recent years, and the airport is expanding and enhancing services to meet traveler demand," said Rattana Metem, managing director for WLANNet. "Boingo's industry-leading neutral host roaming platform and flexible access options provide an easy-to-use, world-class service to passengers, helping HKT deliver on its goal of providing the best possible customer experience."
The network shares the WLANNet infrastructure already in place at the airport. The network is also accessible to Boingo's international roaming and platform service partners, including Korea Telecom, NTT Communications, Orange France, Skype, Telefonica and Verizon, who provide self-branded access to Boingo networks for their customers through wholesale agreements with the company.
Phuket Airport is the second busiest airport in Thailand, serving more than 8.5 million passengers in 2011. Boingo's managed Wi-Fi services are already available at Thailand's most highly trafficked airport, Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK).
