Emirates adds Washington to its US network

EMIRATES SAYS it will begin flights to Washington in September as part of an expansion into the American market.Washington is the third new US destination added this year by Emirates, one of the world's fastest-growing carriers.The new service begins on 12 September, the airline said.With Washington, Emirates will have seven routes to the US. It added Seattle and Dallas/Fort Worth this year."This new route will provide further impetus to the vibrant trade relationship between the United Arab Emirates and the US, boosting exports and imports and increasing opportunities for business, industry and tourism," Emirates chairman and chief executive Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed al Maktoum said.Flight EK 231 will leave Dubai daily at 2.20 am and arrive at Washington Dulles International Airport at 08.50 am. EK 232 will depart Dulles at 10.55 am arriving in Dubai at 8 am the following day.The airline said it will operate a Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft on its DC route, providing eight private suites in First Class, 42 lie-flat beds in Business Class and 304 seats in Economy Class.Emirates is also separately upgrading the aircraft serving Munich, Dusseldorf and Frankfurt in Germany.The Airbus 340-300 currently deployed on one of Munich's two daily flights, EK 051, was due to be replaced with a larger Boeing 777-300 from 25 March, giving a 36 per cent boost to seat capacity, it said.Similarly, the A340-300 supporting one of the twice daily flights to Dusseldorf, EK 057, will be switched to a 777-300ER as of 1 June, giving a 36 per cent increase in the number of seats available.Additionally, the A330-200 serving one of Frankfurt's three daily flights, EK 043, will be upgraded to a 777-300ER from 1 October, giving a 49 per cent boost in seat capacity.
