As originally reported on AP News, hundreds of flights were grounded in Istanbul on Monday, after heavy snowfalls blanketed the area. The Istanbul Atatürk Airport reported on its website that there were significant delays.
Turkish Airlines announced cancellations of 250 international and domestic flights from both the Atatürk Airport and Sabiha Gökçen International Airport. The airliner has also announced cancelations of at least 149 flights scheduled for Tuesday.
The snow began on Sunday evening and is expected to continue until Tuesday night Turkey's General Directorate of Meteorology, which also warned of heavy rainfall and a risk of flooding in southern Turkey.
