Iran to Produce MSS Radar
A Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar contract is to be signed with Isfahan University of Technology in January 2020, director general at Iran Imam Khomeini Airport (IKIA) said.
"The process of purchasing the MSS Radar to complete the radar coverage of new airline routes in the southwest, east, and west of the country began in early May. However, after the sanctions were re-imposed, it was stopped, as the companies we were negotiating with refused to sell radar to our country,” Ahmad Momeni Rokh said, Trend reports citing ILNA.
“To overcome this problem, we are contracting Isfahan University of Technology to produce the radars we need. The contract is likely to be finalized in January, and we will receive the first radar within 22 months," the director general noted.
Momeni Rokh went on to say that using this type of radar in the Flight Control Center of the country plays a very important role in ensuring flight safety.
He added that airports took steps to localize production of airport and aviation equipment 10 years ago, and now there are more than 40 recorders at airports of the country.
"This equipment was produced through reverse engineering of existing equipment. It records all pilot communication with watchtowers, controllers, meteorological units and airport headquarters and other organs,” Momeni Rokh said. "ATIS device that accelerates the performance of flight control has also been developed and approved by one of the aviation electronics experts of Iran Airports and Navigation Company.”
“We signed a contract with a domestic company to buy a friction tester,” the official said adding that construction of runway's lighting equipment is also on the agenda of the company.
Momeni Rokh also announced signing a contract with the Shiraz Electronic Industries Company in December to produce the distance measuring equipment (DME).
