Flights at South Bend International Airport Increase in July and August

July 15, 2020

After four months of decreased flight activity at South Bend International Airport (SBN) due to the COVID-19 pandemic, flights are on the rise in July and August. In July, the number of flights coming in and out of SBN increase 56.2% over June. In August they are scheduled to increase another 42.1%.

In July, American Airlines resumed a second daily flight to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). This flight along with the two daily flights to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) brings American’s operations to pre-pandemic levels.

Delta Air Lines previously served SBN nonstop to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW), Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP), and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). In the past few months, Delta has flown one flight a day to DTW. In July, service to DTW increased to twice daily while ATL resumed with one flight per day. In August, operations increase to three flights daily to both DTW and ATL. MSP is currently scheduled to return in September.

United Airlines increased flights to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) from two to three times daily in July. In August, they will operate the flight four times a day.

Allegiant continues to serve all five year-round destinations from SBN. Nonstop service to Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) resumes twice weekly on November 20 for a second season. Tickets are on-sale now at www.allegiant.com.

“SBN has been impacted by COVID-19 as most every business has been,” said Mike Daigle, SBN’s executive director and CEO. “As travel restrictions have been lifted, the airlines are resuming service as demand returns. The safety of every passenger, employee, and individual that visits SBN has always been, and always will be, our top priority. The airlines and each of our tenant partners are doing everything possible to ensure a safe travel experience. We are at a time where it is as important as ever for travelers to choose to fly SBN instead of driving to airports in larger cities. We appreciate everyone who is choosing to travel and is choosing to start and end their trip at SBN.”
