‘We Can’t Wait to Serve You.’ Cafe With Happy Valley Roots Opening at University Park Airport

March 28, 2023

Mar. 27—Bees Knees Coffee, a Happy Valley favorite, will close up its takeout window in Pleasant Gap in early April. But coffee lovers won't have to go too long without it, as its coffee will soon be served in a new location.

A Sunday morning Facebook post from the coffee shop states that it will be moving into a space at the University Park Airport, 2493 Fox Hill Road, State College, and will open "Up Up and Away Cafe," featuring Bees Knees Coffee.

"This move will enable us to serve you in a space where you can come inside and sit down! The airport offers free 30 minute parking and will be validating parking up to a certain amount of time with proof of purchase or voucher from the cafe. We can't wait to serve you, see you and hang out a bit at this new space," the post states.

Up Up and Away Cafe's first day at the airport will be April 10. It will be open daily from 5:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. Drinks will be available daily at 5:30 a.m. and at 6 a.m. for food. The espresso machine and kitchen will close at 5:30 p.m. and the cafe will shut down at 6 p.m., according to the Facebook post.

The owner, Bromlyn Fitzgerald, previously owned and managed Daily Dose Cafe in the Geisinger Gray's Woods building in Patton Township. The menu at Up Up and Away Cafe will be similar to that of Daily Dose Cafe. She plans to bring "back those lunch specials and soups as regular menu items and as always including local ingredients and products from some of your favorite townies," the post states.

"We are going to be making quick and delicious breakfast and lunch items along with our homemade baked goods and as always fantastic coffee," Bees Knees Coffee wrote on Facebook.

The last day of the takeout window will be April 6. Bees Knees Coffee will continue to deliver drinks on Tuesdays and Thursdays, fill wholesale orders and have the trailer open. In the future, deliveries may be limited.

Bees Knees Coffee opened in 2020 and is the first mobile coffee shop and coffee delivery service in central Pennsylvania, according to its website. It's known for its handcrafted drinks, which feature PA products.
