United to introduce five new flights from O'Hare Airport

Chicago's O'Hare Airport will see five new round-trip flights by United Airlines. The carrier will also invest $40 million for service improvements at the airport.

Rahm Emanuel, Mayor of Chicago, said, "These critical investments will make O'Hare a more modern, competitive airport for our residents." According to the plans, new passenger loading bridges would be set up in Terminal 2 by spending $13 million and with this; regional aircraft could be boarded directly from the terminal, which will help avoid stairways. In May, the loading bridges construction started and by mid-July, the set up of few gates will finish, while by the middle of 2013, it is anticipated that all the 10 gates will be completed. Also, United Airlines will build the United Club at Terminal 2 by spending $10 million. $2 million will be spent on a medical clinic for United employees to avail regular check-ups and emergency care service. By the year end, the clinic will be completed. The inline baggage system at Concourse B in Terminal 1 will see operational and security improvements for which $19.5 million will be invested by both United and TSA together. Of the total investment $2 million will be invested by TSA. Rosemarie S. Andolino, Aviation Commissioner, said, "We applaud the new and enhanced amenities and services that United Airlines is adding to O'Hare for both its passengers and its employees." The five new destinations to be added by United Airlines are: Monterrey in Mexico, with daily service beginning December 19; Nassau, Bahamas will see service provision every Saturday in peak season and this service will begin February 9; Thunder Bay, Canada, with daily service beginning February 14; Jackson, Miss., with daily service beginning November 4; Anchorage, Alaska, with daily peak winter service December 19 to January 2 added to the existing daily summer service.
