JetBlue To Expand In Fort Lauderdale, Offer Six Daily Flights To San Juan
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, Nov. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- JetBlue Airways (Nasdaq: JBLU), the fastest growing airline in Puerto Rico, today announces further expansion on the island with the addition of two more daily flights between San Juan and Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The new flights are scheduled to begin in May 2012 when JetBlue celebrates ten years of offering high-quality, low-fare service to Puerto Rico. In a single decade, JetBlue has grown to become the largest airline to Puerto Rico in terms of capacity.
With its expanded schedule, JetBlue will offer up to six daily nonstop flights between its South Florida focus city at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in the Puerto Rican capital, more than any other airline. Tickets for JetBlue's expanded service are now on sale at www.jetblue.com.
"JetBlue is excited to be expanding yet again on our popular route between Fort Lauderdale and San Juan," said Scott Laurence, JetBlue's vice president of network planning and partnerships. "Only JetBlue offers a complete experience with assigned seating, free first-run movies, a free first checked bag, unlimited snacks and drinks, and the most legroom in coach – now with up to six convenient options per day."
More growth on tap for San Juan
JetBlue's added Fort Lauderdale service is just one in a series of upcoming expansion waves planned for its operation in San Juan. This Thursday the airline will begin daily nonstop jet service to St. Maarten. Then on December 12, JetBlue will add daily nonstop jet service to both St. Croix and St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The growth will continue into the new year with nonstop service to Hartford, Conn., beginning January 5, 2012.
From San Juan, JetBlue currently offers service to Boston; New York/JFK; Jacksonville, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Tampa, Fla.; and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The airline also serves Aguadilla and Ponce, Puerto Rico, with service to Orlando and New York/JFK.
An expanding presence in Fort Lauderdale
At Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, where JetBlue is the second-largest airline in terms of travelers carried, dozens of daily departures are offered to cities across the U.S. including Austin, Texas; Boston; Los Angeles; New York; San Francisco; and Washington, as well as Cancun, Mexico; Nassau, Bahamas; and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
In addition, JetBlue was recently awarded preliminary government approval to expand its Fort Lauderdale route map and launch daily nonstop service to Bogota, Colombia. The airline expects to announce flight details in the coming months, following receipt of final government approvals.
