Volga-Dnepr Group’s delegates visited Kitakyushu City Government (Japan) to discuss further steps of cooperation under the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed last year between the group and Kitakyushu City Government/Fukuoka Prefectural Government.
Following the ease of COVID-19 restrictions, Dmitry Vorontsov, Volga-Dnepr Group’s director for APAC Development, met with Kenji Kitahashi, mayor of Kitakyushu City, to touch base on the current state of MoU implementation and identify the next steps of the cooperation.
The MoU embraces activities of both parties aimed at the development of the air cargo ecosystem utilizing Kitakyushu Airport which is a 24-hour offshore airport and one of the few airports in Japan with sea and air transport facilities. With Volga-Dnepr operating fleet of unique wide-body freighters, An-124-100/150, Boeing 747F and Boeing 777F, Kitakyushu Airport reviews the possibility to extend the existing runway to 3,000 m to stimulate the growth of the air cargo operations.
Vorontsov highlights, “Within Volga-Dnepr Group we strongly believe that cooperation with like-minded and cargo-friendly airports opens possibilities for further expansion, creates favorable conditions for local freight forwarding communities and enables uninterrupted supply chains for international manufacturers based in proximity. We feel honored to be working with the Kitakyushu City Government on the development of Kitakyushu Airport sharing our knowledge and expertise for enhancement of the airport cargo infrastructure. Realization of our joint effort will allow us to cover the major part of Japan and include Fukuoka Prefectural into our scheduled network, as well as operate charter flights and programs.”
Volga-Dnepr Group has been present in Japan for more than 30 years. During this time, the group has operated numerous charter flights and managed to build effective relations for scheduled cargo operations using its versatile fleet of freighters.
