Southern Airways Re-Launches Nantucket Service

May 27, 2021

Southern Airways Express, the fastest-growing commuter airline in America, has launched its third season of service in New England. Flights to Nantucket from Boston/Norwood, Boston/Hanscom, Providence, and New Bedford (Mass.) began May 26, and Saturday service from Lancaster (Penn.) begins June 5.

“Summer is finally here, and cooped-up New Englanders emerging from the pandemic are ready to stretch their legs. Nowhere offers a more perfect getaway than nearby Nantucket, with beautiful beaches, spectacular hiking, quaint village spaces, exquisite dining, shopping, history, and more,” said Mark Cestari, Southern’s chief commercial officer.

With estimated flight times of around 30-minutes each way, Southern’s “island-hopper” service is a perfect alternative to long, confined plane trips to distant destinations across the country or around the world.

“Southern’s fleet of Cessna Caravan and Grand Caravan aircraft offers the most personal space of any commuter airliner, each of our seats is both a window and aisle, for maximum comfort and social distancing,” said Keith Sisson, Southern’s chief marketing officer. “Additionally, these roomy turboprop aircraft offer plenty of cargo capacity for large suitcases, golf clubs, and even the family pet. Southern passengers will avoid long drives, big airport hassles, and often unpredictable ferry rides.”

Southern, with operational footprints in the Gulf South, the mid-Atlantic, Hawaii, California, and seasonally in New England, is one of the largest commuter airlines in the country.

“In addition to visitors, this is the perfect option for second homeowners and business travelers seeking a hassle-free way to reach Nantucket,” Cestari said. “Our service is also designed for local Nantucket residents traveling off-island. Southern now offers a partnership with American Airlines, providing seamless daily connecting service via Providence. Nantucket passengers can check their bags through to their final destination.”
