Jan. 14, 2021

American Airlines will resume nonstop service between Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) beginning Feb. 11. The airline will use a Canadair RJ 700 aircraft for the reinstated daily service.

“We are pleased that American Airlines will resume nonstop service from Birmingham to our nation’s capital,” said Ronald F. Mathieu, Birmingham Airport Authority president and CEO. “Whether for business or leisure travel, this nonstop route will offer our customers the ease and convenience they enjoy and can expect when they fly BHM.”

As part of its Clean Commitment, American Airlines covers every step of the travel experience to help keep customers safe and confident about reconnecting with the people and places that matter most.

“We’re excited to once again connect Birmingham with our nation’s capital,” said Brian Znotins, American’s vice president of network planning. “Our customers can safely take to the skies thanks to American’s Clean Commitment. From hospital-grade HEPA filters that purify cabin air every 2-4 minutes to cleaning aircraft with care before every flight and electrostatic spraying, we’ve ensured every step in the travel journey is a safe one from baggage drop to baggage claim. We look forward to welcoming customers back on board.”

The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport continues to be ready to welcome back travelers who have not traveled in the past year. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, BHM has deployed enhanced cleaning protocols and upgraded its disinfecting and cleaning solutions to instill confidence and offer peace of mind for travelers. Multiple layers of protection are in place so travelers can feel confident and safe when they fly BHM.
