Fiji Airways Carries Donated Rugby Kit to Fiji

Nov. 9, 2016

Hong Kong, 8 November 2016 -- Fiji Airways joined hands with the Hong Kong Rugby Union’s Mini Rugby Clubs: USRC Tigers and Flying Kukris, the Kowloon RFC and Hong Kong Scottish to carry 16 boxes (160kgs) of donated rugby kit from Hong Kong to Fiji. The first consignment left HK last week and was received by the Fiji Red Cross.

Then next batch (also 160kgs) is due to depart HK in the coming weeks.

Ben Ryan, ex Fiji 7’s coach and newly crowned village chief gave a helping hand to receive the donations when he was recently in Hong Kong.

The brand new kit comprising shorts, jerseys, socks, boots, balls and bags will make its way to rugby loving children in remote villages in Fiji where supplies are scarce but the love of rugby huge.

Hong Kong’s generous rugby community regularly donates to underprivileged youngsters around the region including programmes in Samoa, Cambodia, Laos and the Philippines. With so many organisations involved, everyone has high hopes for these donations to make a difference in each of the Fijians’ lives and inspire the next crop of Fijian sevens superstars - be it a set of jerseys for a youth team, a ball for a village to share or a little boy’s first pair of boots.
