San Diego Gets New Nonstop Flight to Cleveland

March 29, 2023

Low-cost air carrier Frontier Airlines is doubling down on San Diego, adding a nonstop flight to Cleveland just a week after saying it would be debuting a new route to Atlanta.

Starting June 8, the airline will offer the new flight three times a week, making it the first carrier to provide nonstop service between San Diego and Cleveland.

"We view Cleveland as an underserved route from San Diego," said Josh Flyr, vice president, network and operational design for Frontier Airlines. "Also, the route fits well within our strong presence at CLE (Cleveland Hopkins International Airport), and San Diego is a destination that Cleveland travelers desire."

San Diego Regional Airport Authority CEO Kimberly Becker noted that the new seasonal service will give Southern Californians "better access to the beautiful Great Lakes region, while ensuring that Clevelanders can easily access all the sun and surf here in San Diego."

Cleveland.com reported that according to Cleveland airport officials, San Diego is the most popular destination from Cleveland without nonstop service.

The new flights will operate on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The departure time is 8:07 a.m., except on Sundays, when it's 7:52 a.m. The arrival time in Cleveland is 3:37 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, and 3:22 p.m. for the Sunday flights.

Frontier is promoting the new route with an introductory airfare sale of $89 one way. Fares must be purchased by 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on April 4, 2023. Fares are valid for travel through Aug. 15, 2023. The following blackout dates apply: May 26-29, June 30, and July 9. Round-trip purchase is not required.

The new Cleveland flight marks the seventh nonstop route to be offered by Frontier out of San Diego.

"Our service from San Diego International Airport is proving consistently popular on a year-round basis," said Flyr. "Given the area's large population base, attractiveness as a leisure destination and somewhat limited penetration of ultra-low cost airlines, we see it as a very attractive growth opportunity for Frontier. "

The new Atlanta nonstop is scheduled to start in May.
