Mom Removed from Florida Flight When 2-Year-Old Removes Mask to Eat Snack: Report

Sept. 15, 2020

A woman traveling with her 2-year-old son from Florida to Chicago was removed from a Southwest Airlines flight after the boy was found by airline personnel without a mask on his face.

He was eating a snack, according to a report from NBC 2 in Fort Myers.

Jodi Degyansky, a single mother, told NBC 2 they were trying to fly out of Fort Myers on Saturday night and while waiting for takeoff, her son was snacking, and flight attendants repeatedly asked her to make her son keep the mask on for the entire flight, as that is Southwest Airlines policy.

Degyansky said she tried to adhere to the policy, but wasn’t able to, and then was asked to depart the plane. The airline said in a statement it stands by the policy, and it gave Degyansky a full refund.

She told the station she was able to book a flight home on American Airlines.
