OH: For 50 Years, Farmer Has Solved Problems at CMH

Joe Farmer has the right temperament for addressing the kinds of problems that arise in airports: torn passports, irate passengers, anxious basketball coaches.

“I think you can tell by talking to me that I’m pretty laid-back,” Farmer, 68, said last week, as he marked 50 years of employment for Delta Air Lines at John Glenn Columbus International Airport.

Genially — and with a bit of southern Ohio twang in his voice — Farmer described a career that began Nov. 16, 1967, the day after he turned 18. His first assignment was cleaning and loading planes for Delta at what then was called Port Columbus. In those days, the ticket agents were still using pencils and the planes still had propellers.
