Aerostar S.A., the leading Romanian aerospace company, is participating at MRO Europe in Amsterdam (October 18-20) to promote the continued growth of its successful civil aircraft MRO business which now accounts for just over 20 percent of its overall turnover.

The Aerostar representatives attending MRO Europe are Ovidiu Buhai, Director Aviation MRO and Upgrades Division and Business Development Manager Iulian Leonte.

The number of heavy maintenance manhours carried out by Aerostar so far in 2016 has seen a steady increase of more than 15% over the same period last year. In 2016, 16% of the total MRO manhours was for work on Airbus aircraft, growing from just 2% in 2015.

With EASA Part 145 approvals for Boeing 737 (Classic and NG), Airbus A320 family and the BAe 146/Avro RJ, Aerostar has a strong and growing customer base from airlines in Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The continued focus of Aerostar in its MRO business is top-quality work and on-time performance, which results in continuing repeat business.

The company also offers a wide range of back-shop overhaul and repair capabilities including for wheels and brakes, batteries, oxygen, door hatches, flight controls and hydraulic components.

Some new capabilities that have been added more recently and which are proving popular with customers are functional checks of hydraulic fuses, structural repairs including composites and interior and seat refurbishment.

Aerostar was also one of the first independent MROs in Europe to carry out installations of Split Scimitar Winglets on Boeing 737NG aircraft. Since completing the first installation in March-April 2014 Aerostar has now carried out a total of 14 SSW installations and offers this service either separately or as part of a heavy maintenance check.

Aerostar is also a prominent Tier 2 supplier in the international supply chain using its EASA Part 21 approval for aviation manufacturing. The company is a major subcontractor of parts and assemblies to the Airbus supply chain and companies such as GKN Aerospace and at the recent Farnborough International Airshow was the recipient of GKN Aerospace’s Premier Supplier Award for 2015/16.

Parts and assemblies are produced for aircraft programmes from Airbus, Gulfstream and Dassault as well as Boeing and Bombardier.

Aerostar is also a significant subcontractor for the production of systems and components for landing gears and hydraulic systems. Working primarily with Messier-Bugatti-Dowty, Aerostar produces significant components for aircraft such as the Airbus A320 family, A330, A350XWB and Boeing 787. The company is also the sole supplier of undercarriages for the Daher-Socata TBM 900 executive turboprop aircraft.
