DETROIT, January 29, 2013 – AAR (NYSE: AIR) will be recruiting journeyman-level aircraft mechanics for positions paying up to $25 an hour at its Duluth, Minn., repair station during a Detroit visit on Tuesday.
AAR recruiters will accept applications for as many as 70 positions and are prepared to offer signing bonuses to highly qualified candidates who are screened from 1 to 6 p.m. at MIAT College of Technology, 2955 S. Haggerty Road, Canton, Michigan. AAR has created more than 100 jobs since opening its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in Duluth in November. At capacity, the facility could create up to 225 jobs.
AAR has a relationship with MIAT and has hired its newly minted graduates in the past. But during this visit, the global aerospace leader is recruiting for mechanics with a minimum of three to five years of experience, AAR recruiter Greg Dellinger said. He is particularly interested in workers recently furloughed from jobs at repair stations in Michigan and beyond.
“AAR should be recruiting at the epicenter of aircraft mechanical education here in Michigan,” Dellinger said. “MIAT has a robust list of graduates and we’re hoping to present these jobs to mechanics who can make a commitment to go to Duluth.”
AAR is also hiring mechanics, inspectors, and sheet metal and lead technicians to work at its Indianapolis Maintenance Center near that city’s airport. “Our Indianapolis MRO has hired the most MIAT graduates in the past,” said Dellinger, who said he plans to make a presentation to MIAT students during his visit. “It’s important for industry leaders to connect to students and encourage them.”
