Project Manager, Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico, Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, 33 years old.

“My son Angel Yomar motivated me to retake my dreams when he was born,” said Yomar Pacheco Torres, project manager with Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico. “He was the fuel that brought me the energy to fight, change my future and be part of the aviation industry.”

Pacheco Torres' career development started in 2015, when he started to work at Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico, as a level 1 structures and composite technician. The Caribbean Aviation Training Institute graduate received six months’ training at Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico and 10 months’ training Shannon Aerospace, Ireland.

Pat Foley, Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico's CEO, who nominated him for this year’s 40 Under 40 award, said, “As Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico’s future evolved, Yomar’s knowledge about aircraft maintenance quickly increased, surpassing regular milestone timeframes. After years of steady drive and improvement, Yomar developed his path and escalated in an impressive manner by going through the positions of level 1 and 2 mechanic, interim team leader, line leader and production manager in a span of less than three years.

When Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico’s expansion plans were announced, Pacheco Torres thought it would be a good time to apply for the bay manager vacancy. “Although I was scared and intimidated, all the support I received from my colleagues encouraged me to proceed. To my surprise, I was the selected candidate and my first project was building a team from scratch. The recruitment process was successful, and my new team was truly amazing.”

Pacheco Torres continues working as a bay manager and said he is happy to report many of the colleagues who were part of his original team also have experienced professional growth. His current responsibilities include leading projects and the aircraft management team to deliver aircraft in an effective manner, with high quality standards. “The experiences in these positions, shaping the future of the company and the opportunity to help others develop their career are my biggest satisfaction," he said.

“I give back to the industry by being an approachable team leader, staying open to learning from everyone who surrounds me and constantly trying to improve,” he said. “As a bay manager, I aspire to stimulate each of my team members and enable their growth on a daily basis and on a personal and professional level.

Pacheco Torres' career goals are to help fellow Puerto Ricans become the best aircraft mechanics they can possibly be while having the greatest experience in maintenance, repair and overhaul.

Foley, “He is always on the lookout for continuous improvement and his leadership skills are reflected in the quality of his team’s every-day performance.”
