Seoul — Following North Korea's series of recent missile tests, the US armed forces demonstrated their military strength in the region on Tuesday.
Fighter jets took off from the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier for an "air demonstration" in international airspace. The US forces in South Korea also announced that they had intensified their own missile defence exercises.
North Korea has significantly increased the frequency and scope of its ballistic missile tests since September.
Two intercontinental ballistic missiles were deployed at the end of February and the beginning of March. North Korea has claimed that the tests form part of the development work for an Earth observation satellite.
Despite a ban by the United Nations, the country has been developing missiles of different ranges for years, some of which can also carry a nuclear warhead.
