Navy Instructor Pilot from Michigan Dies in Training Flight in Alabama Along with Student
An instructor pilot from Michigan died Friday when a training flight in Alabama went down, Navy officials said Sunday. The other member of the aircrew, a student aviator from North Carolina, also was killed in the crash.
"Their spirit, friendship and devotion to their country will not be forgotten," the Navy said.
U.S. Navy Lt. Rhiannon Ross, 30, of Wixom, and Coast Guard Ensign Morgan Garrett, 24, of Weddington, North Carolina, were aboard a U.S. Navy T-6B Texan II trainer aircraft, which crashed at about 5 p.m. CDT Friday in a residential area of Foley.
No civilians were injured, the Navy added.

Ross and Garrett took off from the Naval Air Station Whiting Field in Milton, Florida, on what the Navy called "a routine training flight." The T-6B Texan II is a tandem-seat, turboprop trainer designed to train Navy and Marine Corps pilots.
Local and Navy emergency crews responded the crash and the cause is under investigation.
