Frankfurt — German airline group Lufthansa plans to bring its remaining two mothballed Airbus A380 wide-body jets back into service due to delivery difficulties for new long-haul aircraft.

The double-decker jumbo jets are currently parked in Teruel, Spain, and will be reintegrated into Lufthansa's fleet between 2024 and 2025, a Lufthansa spokeswoman confirmed on Thursday.

The move means a total of eight Airbus A380s will again be flying in the Lufthansa fleet in the future. Lufthansa already reactivated three of the jets and previously announced plans to bring back three others by next year.

The Airbus 380s, billed as the world's largest passenger aircraft, were taken out of service for efficiency reasons several years ago. Lufthansa originally purchased 14 of the aircraft, but manufacturer Airbus is contractually obliged to take back six.

The Lufthansa aircraft will be stationed in Munich.
