HIA is One of the First Airports in the World to Offer Flights on This Regional Jet with First Class Seating
If you’re traveling this week for Thanksgiving, there’s a chance that you’re flying.
Some travelers that will be flying out of Harrisburg International Airport in Lower Swatara Township will have the chance to fly in the new Bombardier CRJ-550, United’s first 50-seat regional jet to offer first class seating.
Harrisburg International Airport is one of the first airports in the world to offer flights on the CRJ-550, according to United Airlines officials. The airport began offering flights on the CRJ-550 on Oct. 27 and it currently is operating between HIA and Chicago.
The aircraft will have space for more than 50 carry-on bags in the overhead compartments and carry-on cabinets. United says that passengers will also have a lot more legroom on the CRJ-550, which is 20 percent larger than its typical aircraft.
The planes have 20 seats in economy class, 20 seats in economy-plus and 10 in first class, according to the Central Penn Business Journal.
“The CRJ-550 is unlike any other aircraft in the world,” Sarah Murphy, United’s senior vice president of United Express said in a press release. “We created the only three-cabin 50-seat aircraft to offer customers unprecedented comfort and service as they travel throughout United’s global route network.”
Amenities on the aircraft include:
A roomy, first-class cabin
A self-serve refreshment center for United First customers featuring a wide assortment of snacks and beverages.
Space for every customer to bring a roller bag on board.
More overall legroom per seat
The ability to stay connected while in flight with United Wi-Fi.
United officials declined to comment on the price of tickets other than to say that the CRJ-550 will be competitively priced based on demand in the market.
Customers will be able to view their seat before they buy tickets using a virtual seat map on United.com. This is the only aircraft so far that can be seen on the virtual map on United.com.
You can take a look inside the aircraft in the gallery above or in the video below.
