Richard (Rich) Leary has joined HNTB as a senior program manager of aviation and associate vice president in the firm’s Northwest Division. Leary brings over three decades of experience to this new role, in which he will support project and construction management on aviation programs throughout the Northwest, assisting airports as they deal with increasing traffic demands.

“Richard brings a high level of experience and expertise to HNTB, and he will play an integral role in advancing our aviation programs,” said Kevin Collins, PE, HNTB Washington office leader and senior vice president. “His depth of knowledge in design, program management and construction management will be invaluable serving our aviation clients across the nation. We are thrilled to welcome Richard to our team.”

Prior to joining HNTB, Leary spent nearly 20 years with a leading infrastructure engineering company, most recently working as a principal project manager of aviation. In that role, Leary managed design, procurement, construction and commissioning for aviation construction projects. He was also a subject matter expert for the installation of conveyance systems and baggage screening systems.

Earlier in his career, Leary worked as a design engineer. In this role, he managed research, design and development of new and existing products, and designed and conducted the testing and evaluation of new products. Leary also spent time as a project engineering manager, overseeing a mechanical engineering department of more than 20 engineers.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join HNTB, a firm that is renowned for its technical excellence,” said Leary. “As airports in the Northwest and the U.S. deal with increased traffic demands, it is critical to stay up to speed on evolving needs, especially around technology and other innovations which will impact their operations. I look forward to helping HNTB deliver innovative solutions that meet the changing needs of travelers.”

Leary received his bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from the University of Central Florida. He is a certified project manager.
