A small plane landed on U.S. 27 in Miramar due to engine issues on Tuesday afternoon, the Pembroke Pines Police Department said in a tweet.

Drivers traveling south on U.S. 27 in Miramar experienced delays.

The pilot landed in the southbound lanes of the road, south of Pembroke Road, the police department said about 2 p.m.

The pilot and a passenger were not injured, Arlene Satchell, a spokesperson for North Perry Airport, said in an email.

The 1989 Piper Cherokee PA28 single-engine aircraft is owned by Florida General Aviation Corporation, according to FlightAware. It departed from the North Perry Airport about 1:30 p.m. and landed 10 minutes later.

Satchell said that the aircraft is of the Airline Training Academy of Miami, a flight school that operates out of the airport, and the pilot was “likely on a training-related flight.”

The aircraft was flown five times Tuesday prior to the emergency landing, according to FlightAware, making short round trips to and from the North Perry Airport.

Florida General Aviation’s president did not immediately return a voicemail seeking information Tuesday afternoon.

The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate.

Tania Rues, a spokesperson for Miramar Police, said the plane remained on the roadway as of 5:30 p.m. A crane is necessary remove it, she said.
