No Serious Injuries After Cessna Crashes at Kona Airport
Feb. 14—A twin-engine Cessna P337H crashed at the Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport on Hawaii island this morning, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The crash occurred at about 8:30 a.m.
According to the Hawaii Department of Transportation, the small passenger plane carrying five people was departing on runway 35 when the takeoff was aborted.
It's unclear at this time why the takeoff was aborted.
DOT spokesman Jai Cunningham said the aircraft did not have its landing gear down at the time of the crash. The plane came to rest in the runway safety area.
DOT said the airport's aircraft rescue crew and firefighters responded.
The pilot suffered abrasions in the crash. There were no serious injuries reported and the aircraft did not break apart at the time of impact.
Airport operations were not affected.
The FAA will investigate the crash.
