Vintage Airplanes Saved From Damage in Chino Airport Fire
Jan. 6—Chino Valley Fire District firefighters and a sprinkler system extinguished a fire in a hangar at Chino Airport on Wednesday evening, Jan. 5, before the flames could damage two vintage airplanes.
The fire was reported about 5:30 p.m. The hangar is owned by one of the members of the board of directors of the Planes of Fame Air Museum, said Jerry Wilkins, the museum's executive director.
The hangar contained a World War II trainer airplane, which the museum owns, and another airplane that was disassembled, Wilkins said. Some of the other contents burned, Wilkins said, but he wasn't sure exactly what.
No one was in the hangar when the fire started, said Massiel De Guevara, a Fire District spokeswoman. The cause was under investigation.
