Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing on Sand in Seal Beach
A small plane that had a mid-air malfunction made an emergency landing on the sand in Seal Beach, and its occupants walked away unharmed Tuesday, Jan. 4.
The pilot of the Cessna 152 reported engine trouble before touching down on the beach near the 8th Street municipal parking lot at 12:38 p.m., Seal Beach Police Lt. Nick Nicholas said. It reached the ground safely despite the unstable landing surface.
“I didn’t see any damage to the plane at all,” Nicholas said. “Kudos to the pilot.”
Two people were aboard the plane at the time, Nicholas said. No injuries or property damage on the ground were reported.
The plane took off from Torrance Municipal Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Its registered owner is First Western Aviation LLC, according to online records.
