The number of personnel on a ramp at any given time at a fixed-base operator (FBO) varies depending on the operation.

“The roles of these personnel are vast, but we always stress they are the front door to the community — these team members are the first and last folks a flight crew will interact with from the communities our FBOs represent,” describes Casey Ross, safety, standards and training manager at Avflight.

More specifically, these roles include: meeting customer needs by assisting with luggage, catering and other personal needs; meeting flight crew needs by providing a variety of services to aircraft; constantly monitoring the ramp for hazards, such as running aircraft or equipment; moving aircraft or equipment; and escorting (either on foot or in vehicles) passengers who may not be familiar with navigating an active ramp.
