R.L. Jones, Jr. Airport Focuses on Sustainability with new LED Lighting

Nov. 19, 2018

Installation of new LED technology at R.L. Jones, Jr. Airport has recently been completed on Runway 1L-19R. The project, which focused on replacing 84 light fixtures with new LED High Intensity Runway Edge Lights, began in mid-October of this year.

Airport staff was responsible for updating the light fixtures and also replaced the Constant Current Regulator (CCR) with an updated version. The entire project cost approximately $60,000.

All of the equipment replaced will result in cost savings, along with the following benefits:

  • Very low energy consumption
  • Increased availability of the runway due to reduction of maintenance
  • Very low working temperature, resulting in longer component life

“We are aware of the need to implement sustainable practices,” said Mark VanLoh, CEO of Tulsa Airports. “We are continuously researching new ways to shrink our environmental footprint and reduce our annual operating costs. This project shows our commitment to green initiatives.”
