Richmond International Airport to Waive Fuel Flowage Fee for General Aviation Aircraft for NASCAR Race Week

Sept. 5, 2018

Members of the Capital Region Airport Commission, appointed by the four participating jurisdictions of the counties of Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico and the city of Richmond, unanimously supported a resolution at the body’s recent monthly meeting to waive the 6 cents per gallon fuel flowage fee for general aviation aircraft using fixed base operators (FBOs) at Richmond International Airport (RIC) during the September NASCAR week at Richmond Raceway.

“Richmond International Airport stands ready to support teams, sponsors, and enthusiasts as Richmond Raceway hosts NASCAR Xfinity and Monster Energy series playoff races,” said Jon E. Mathiasen, AAE, president and CEO of the Commission. “NASCAR race weekends are major events with widespread benefit in the Richmond region and RIC is Central Virginia’s airport of choice for corporate aviation, offering the region’s best navigational aids, longest runways, public safety support with certified aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) and police personnel, and multiple FBOs to park, fuel, and service aircraft. We intend to extend our warmest welcome.”

The fuel flowage fee waiver is in effect for the period beginning 12:01 a.m. September 17, 2018, to 11:59 p.m. September 24, 2018.  This is the sixth year that RIC has waived fuel flowage fees for race weeks at Richmond Raceway.
