Free Aviation and Public Safety Expo in Rome, GA, May 17, 2008
Rome, Ga. (April 30, 2008 ) RE/MAX, Atlanta Helicopter Pilots Association, WGKA 920 AM Radio, Aviation Insurance Brokers of North America, Coosa Valley Tech Aviation and EAA North Georgia Warbird Squadron 17 present the “American Heroes Airshow & Public Safety Expo” at Richard B. Russell Airport beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m on Saturday May 17th.
For the fourth year in a row, helicopters and airplanes representing a variety of Military, Law Enforcement and Public Service agencies will descend upon North Georgia, including helicopters from military, local and state agencies. Civilian aircraft from Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee are also planning to attend, and representatives of Angel Flight of Georgia and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta will be available to discuss their missions in providing transportation to those in need.
The helicopters, airplanes and their crews will be on hand to give up close and personal looks into the use of these aircraft in day-to-day activities across Georgia and around the country.
Along with static exhibits, there will be demonstrations by Canine Units, Ground Rescue Teams, Special Weapons and Tactics equipment and a display of Vietnam and Korean War Era military vehicles. Police, Fire and Rescue teams from all over North Georgia plan to attend.
Additionally, there will be a special FAA Safety presentation for pilots, “Operation Raincheck” with important information about ATC operations around Atlanta.
The Opening Ceremony will take place at 9:00 am, and at noon there will be a Salute to Heroes ceremony, featuring flyovers by US military aircraft, airplane and helicopter demonstrations. The American Legion 201 Riders will present the American Flag in a special Armed Forces Day tribute.
This free event is one of a series of helicopter and public safety expos presented across the Country by the American Heroes Airshow Network and other volunteer organizations like EAA North Georgia Warbird Squadron 17. Russell Airport (RMG) is located 6 miles North of Rome, Ga. On US Hwy. 27. To get to the Airport from I-75, take exit 306 for GA-140 toward Adairsville, go WEST on GA 140 West approximately 13 miles. Turn left at Old Dalton Road NE. Go 3 ½ miles to Lewis Road, turn right, then right again on Warren Road. Look for parking entrance on the right about ¾ mile down. Handicapped parking can be reached from the main entrance to the Airport, about ½ mile further to Richard B. Russell Field Road.
